Mary Jane (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Mary Jane" is a song by late American funk singer Rick James released in 1978 on Come Get It!, his debut album. It is one of his most famous songs, next to "Super Freak" from his album Street Songs. He composed, performed and produced the song. It is featured on the 1995 film Friday's soundtrack, as well as the soundtrack to the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. It is most likely about his love of marijuana, which he alludes to throughout the song.
The song is sampled for the song "All Night Long" by the Mary Jane Girls, released in 1983. The song was further sampled in hip-hop music for years to come. The song as well as the group were also produced by Rick James, and was interestingly included on the soundtrack to Vice City Stories' predecessor, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City along with another song by James.
