Mary George was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. She is a professor married to a professor. In 1967, she founded the St. Swithin Street Nursery School.

In 1969, she, her husband and their three children moved to Winnipeg, Canada, where she continued working as a professor in Manitoba for eight years. In 1977, she resigned, to work as an assistant of the Minister of the Presbiterian Church in Winnipeg.

In 1980, she took night classes in Greek Classic at the University of Winnipeg. Five years later, she finished her thesis of Women honor in Euripides, receiving the Gold medal of Classic.
