Marvin Saltzman

Marvin Saltzman (born in Chicago, Illinois 16 June 1931) is a painter. He attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Southern California graduating with a BFA and MFA in 1959. His teaching career started in 1962 at Eastern Oregon College, 1966 University of Southern California and 1967-1997 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught printmaking, design , drawing and painting. He served as Studio Chairman, Chairman of the Division of Fine arts and held varied service roles during his tenure. An exhibiting painter since 1958 he continues to work as a draughtsman and painter of oils. He travels around the world drawing from nature and returns to his studio and paints about nature. He is known for his robust and distinctive landscapes, complex surfaces, and exciting color manipulation.
