Marty Hurley

Marty Hurley is an American percussionist, teacher, composer, and clinician. He is best known for his work in the areas of marching percussion, rudimental drumming, drum & bugle corps, and marching band.

[edit] Drum Corps

Hurley began his drumming career in 1955 as a snare drummer with the Neptune Shoreliners of New Jersey. He served four years with the US Air Force Band, and played with the Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights and the Hawthorne Caballeros. During the early 1970s, he served as percussion instructor/arranger for three Louisiana drum corps: the Stardusters, Bleu Raeders and Southern Rebels. He also taught and arranged for the Belleville Black Knights of Illinois from 1973 to 1975.

During his tenure as percussion instructor and arranger with the Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Illinois, the corps placed in the Top Ten nationally for 14 years at the Drum Corps International Finals.

Hurley served as percussion judge for the Percussive Arts Society for four years and has conducted percussion clinics for the national meetings of Music Educators Conferences, the Louisiana Music Educators Association, the Texas Music Educators Association and the Percussive Arts Society.

At the present time, Hurley is a marching percussion clinician for Sabian Cymbals and his music is published by Row-Loff Productions. Throughout his his career with drum corps and wrk as a clinician, he has also been the long-time percussion instructor and band director for Brother Martin High School in New Orleans.
