The Martinique national football team is in fact the regional team of French Overseas Departement Martinique and is controlled by the Ligue de Football de Martinique. As a full part of French Republic, Martinique is not a member of FIFA, and is therefore not eligible to enter the World Cup, but they do compete in CONCACAF competitions; they made three Gold Cups, even getting to the quarterfinals in 2002. They were narrowly defeated by Canada on penalties. They also won the Caribbean Cup in 1993.
