Martinez (Amtrak station)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Martinez Station is a rail station in Martinez, California, the county seat of Contra Costa County. It is served by 44 Amtrak trains per day, including Capitol Corridor trains, San Joaquins, the California Zephyr and the Coast Starlight. The station is served by local County Connection bus service and connecting service from WHEELS and Tri-Delta transit. The station was remodeled in the late 1990s, improving its aesthetic appeal. The station includes a transit center for the buses, kiss and ride areas for rides and taxis, and extensive surface level parking.
There are plans to use measure J monies to build a Ferry Terminal and begin a ferry service to San Francisco from this waterfront station on the Suisun Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers Delta of the San Francisco Bay.[citation needed] This would make the station a bus, ferry, and rail intermodal transit hub.
The proposed wBART is an extension of BART service through connecting heavy DMU rail from current terminals. wBART may run thru Martinez on its way to Solano County via the Benicia-Martinez Railbridge if it is extended beyond the preliminary terminal in nearby Hercules.[citation needed]
