[edit] Early life
Martin Storey was born in Oulart, County Wexford in 1964. He was educated locally and, in time, he would become one of the stars at club and inter-county hurling in the 1990s.
[edit] Playing career
[edit] Club
Storey played his club hurling with the famous Oulart-the Ballagh club in Wexford. The club had never won a county championship in its history, however, by the time of Storey’s retirement he had won three, in 1994, 1995 and 1997.
[edit] Inter-county
In the early 1980s Storey first came to prominence when he joined the Wexford minor hurling panel. He later played on the under-21 but had no All-Ireland success at either level. Storey made his senior debut against Kilkenny in 1986 and gave fifteen years of uninterrupted service to inter-county hurling. Success at senior level eluded him for much of the decade, however, his performance in the 1993 championship earned him his first All-Star award. Three years later in 1996 Storey was the Wexford captain when he won his first Leinster title. He later played a key role in the half-forward line when he claimed his first, and only, All-Ireland medal following a win over Limerick in the final. He was subsequently presented with a second All-Star award.
Storey captured a second Leinster title in 1997, however, Wexford were later defeated by Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final. The following years proved difficult as Wexford and Storey faced a resurgent Kilkenny in the Leinster championship. In spite of this he won a third All-Star award in 1998. Storey retired from inter-county hurling in 2000 following two years of heavy defeats for Wexford.
