Martin John Callanan, (born 1982, Birmingham) is an English artist and academic; one of the UK's emerging artists working with digital media; audio, installation, and video. He obtained degrees from both The Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) and University College London.

Callanan is a Honorary Research Fellow to Susan Alexis Collins, (Head of Electronic Media, and Head of Undergraduate Fine Art Media, for the Slade School of Art, University College London). Callanan's work has been to explore artistic issues of systems, governance and mobile, locative media. Callanan's work is displayed and screened in public,^[1] gallery ^[2] and online spaces.

Callanan's early computer animation and digital photographic works from the early 90's have been screened nationally and internationally, at venues including: 7th Seoul Film Festival^[3] and, Sky Television. His early electronic audio work is held by SONUS Archive,^[4], Concordia University, Canada. With inclusions in Biennale 3000, São Paulo; Intermedia Festival, Poland^[5].

Recently completed commissions include the Riga Centre for New Media Culture^[6] and a book for Book Works^[7], London. Publications are international and numerous ^[8]. The colour grey and it's symbolism appear to play a significant role in Callanan's work.
