Martin-de-Viviès

Martin-de-Viviès is the capital of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands and île Amsterdam, it is on the North coast of île Amsterdam in the Indian Ocean, located at 37°55′S 77°30′E. The station houses about 20 scientists and staff. It has been in operation since 1 January 1981, superseding the first station, La Roche Godon.

The base was named after Paul Martin-de-Viviès, who along with 10 others spent the winter of 1949 on île Amsterdam.
