Marshal Software is one of the world's leading suppliers of solutions for email and Internet security. The company is now trading as Marshal. Marshal started in Auckland, New Zealand and is now based in Basingstoke, outside London. First developing MailMarshal for email content security (anti-virus, anti-spam, email scanning and policy enforcement) around 1996, Marshal has now been in business for close to 10 years. Marshal developed other Internet security solutions including WebMarshal for employee Internet management and imMarshal for instant messenger filtering.

Marshal was acquired by San Jose based NetIQ in December of 2002 for US$23 million. NetIQ continued to grow and develop the Marshal business before deciding to sell off the Marshal products in a management buy-out in December 2005 for an undisclosed sum. In the sell off Marshal also took ownership of NetIQ Security Reporting Center and NetIQ Firewall Suite. Marshal is now based in the UK with offices in Paris, Sydney, Atlanta, Houston, South Africa and Auckland. The company now has some 17,000 corporate customers worldwide.
