[edit] About Marlon
Marlon first appeared on Emmerdale in 1996 as the nephew of Zak Dingle. He arrived in a blue sports car and later brought his dad Albert to the village. Marlon supported his uncle Zak through his testicular cancer and is good friends with Paddy Kirk. In 1997, Marlon started working for Kathy Glover's establishment, which was her tearooms during the day, and Eric and Dee Pollard’s wine bar at night, which is when he first showed his cooking skills. When their marriage broke up, Eric went into a deep despair and put Marlon in charge of his business. The ambitious chef was overwhelmed to be given such a huge responsibility and grabbed his opportunity with both hands – even though the Dingles tried to take advantage of his good will by dropping for free food. However, Marlon’s reign as the culinary king of Emmerdale was cut short when Kathy hired hunky Carlos Diaz to work at the diner too. But Marlon was getting his feet well and truly under the table at the Woolpack anyway. Bernice Blackstock had been deeply impressed by Marlon’s cooking and let him do various nights there. The duo even shared a cheeky snog one night! But while his kiss with Bernice led to nothing, Marlon would find true love at the Woolpack.

[edit] Tricia Stokes
New barmaid Tricia Stokes, a dappy girl with a heart of gold, began flirting with Marlon. After a few months of misunderstandings, the couple finally got together and went on holiday to Spain to celebrate the fact. Their relationship was severely tested when Tricia agreed to marry her good friend Jason Kirk’s boyfriend Joe Fisher so he would be allowed to remain in the country. Although she had been offered a lot of money to do it, Marlon was shocked that she would even consider this and they nearly broke up.
Just before the wedding, they reconciled and Tricia does her bit for Marlon’s new business Chez Marlon by giving him the money as a business investment. Sadly the business failed and Tricia left Marlon after just a few months. After spending ages trying to find her, Marlon decided to move on and began dating locum vet Rhona Goskirk. However, Marlon’s world was turned upside down when Tricia returned and they decided to get married. But when the big day came, Tricia hurts her neck and has to wear a collar. She’s so upset that she calls off the wedding and their friends Paddy and Emily get married instead.
However, Marlon and Tricia do eventually get down the aisle. But just a few months after they tie the knot, Tricia is offered the chance to star in a Bollywood film and goes to India for six months. While she’s away Marlon is dreadfully lonely and has a drunken one night stand with his cousin Charity.
When Tricia returned the secret came out and she left Marlon. His desperate attempts to win her back appeared to fail, until it seemed Tricia was willing to forgive after reading a romantic list of characteristics written about her, by Marlon. On New Year’s Eve 2003, Tricia was tragically killed during a storm which resulted in part of the Woolpack's roof collapsing on top of her. The grief suffered by Marlon was prolonged close to a year until he developed a friendly relationship with Donna Windsor. It was thanks to Donna's kind heart that helped Marlon move on from his loss.
[edit] Donna Windsor
Although he rebuffed her early attempts to snare him early in the year, Donna Windsor proved she was the woman for Marlon when she helped him take care of his cousin Lilith's four children that she unexpectantly dumped on him. A relationship started to develop somewhat more than just friendly. It didn’t take Marlon long to fall madly in love with Donna and she with him. When he proposed to her – en route to a chef’s competition in Newcastle, Donna said yes and it looked like there was a happy ending in sight. However, being so young, marriage was a big thing for Donna to consider. She’d also recently become close to hunky Max King and his tragic death left her absolutely devastated.
A short while before their wedding, Marlon started having nightmares about Tricia. This was made worse when Donna tried on Tricia's wedding dress and was caught by Marlon, who momentarily thought Tricia had come back as a ghost. Donna explained that she felt like she was always being compared to Tricia.
On the morning of the wedding Donna decided to confide in Marlon that she was in love with Max while they were together. Heartbroken by her admission that she loved Max, Marlon wondered whether or not it was a good idea to get married after all. But his love for Donna won over and they ended up tying the knot. It was a good decision and they returned from honeymoon even stronger as a couple than before.
Having spent their first few months of marriage sharing a house with Marlon’s friend Paddy Kirk and Toni Daggert, Donna and Marlon were desperate to get on the property ladder. But the prices at King & Son's new development were far too steep for them to consider. Knowing her daughter was desperate to get a place of her own, Donna’s mum Viv has offered the couple money for their deposit – in exchange for Donna’s womb. When Marlon and Donna 'won' the raffle for the Kings Showhome, Donna decided to become a surrogate for Viv and Bob so she could get the money to pay for the deposit of their new home. Marlon was none too pleased but eventually decided to go along with it. With the Showhome collapse on 13th July 2006, Marlon and Donna's dream of owning their own property was shattered. Donna returned the money given to her by her mother upon discovery that Viv was pregnant herself.
