Marlene Hagge

Marlene Hagge (born in February 16, 1934, Eureka, South Dakota), also played as Marlene Bauer before marriage, is a professional golfer. She was one of the thirteen founders of the LPGA and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002.

Hagge took up golf at the age of three and won the Long Beach City Boys Junior title when she was 10. Three years later she won several adult amateur titles and became the youngest player to make the cut at the U.S. Women's Open, finishing eighth. In 1949, at the age of 15, she became the youngest athlete ever to be named Associated Press Athlete of the Year. She was the youngest of the thirteen women who founded the LPGA in 1950, and remains the youngest ever member of the LPGA Tour.

Hagge won twenty six titles on the tour between 1952 and 1972. She was eighteen years and 14 days old when she won the Sarasota Open in 1952, and as of 2005 she remains the youngest winner in LPGA history. (In 2005, Paula Creamer set the record for the youngest winner of a 72-hole tournament; Creamer was 18 years 9 months and 17 days at the time.) However she fared relatively poorly in the major championships, winning just one, namely the 1956 LPGA Championship. 1956 proved to be her career year, with a first place finish on the money list and a tour leading eight victories.
