From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mark Starks' Martian is a fictional comic book and eComic created by writer Mark Starks. It is the first comic book series to invite readers to guest-star in an issue as a hero, heroine or villain with their likeness drawn by a portrait artist.

"Martian" is an intergalactic cop who patrols the galaxy with his female Earthling partner, Terra.

Martian is freed from suspended animation by Earth astronauts on Mars. The astronauts bring him to Earth, with the situation known only to the Government. After Martian recovers, they explain everything to him, but he does not remember anything about himself or what happened to him. Scientists run tests on Martian and discover superior speed, strength and agility. This greatly interests the military. Martian also possesses a fingertip ray power. Terra is one of the astronauts who finds Martian and whom he befriends. She is a philosophical character, helping to educate him on the ways of Human.

Martian's previous life is part of his motivating factor. Like the Greek myth of Prometheus, he was put there for an offense that was nonetheless benevolent in nature, although he has been able to think about it in all the time he was frozen. He has, as it turns out, decided maybe he wasn't right in what he did, and so everything he does now, as he strives along with Terra for peace and justice, is secretly motivated by his desire to prevent a reoccurrence of that original event. What of this charade of appearance, and could another take advantage of the situation, perhaps someone connected to the original event, who misdirected justice and landed the Martian in suspended animation to begin with? Meanwhile, a contingent of adversaries seek to affect these events as well, manipulated by the conspirator.

In Issue #1, "Dark Executioner" (2006), Martian and Terra discover a lifeless Jovian freighter is not abandoned.
