Mark Riley (journalist)

Mark Riley (born 14 September 1960) is Chief Political Correspondent for Seven News in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.

Riley started his journalism career in 1979 at The Newcastle Herald, where he covered the 1989 Newcastle earthquake. He soon moved to the Sydney Morning Herald, where he worked in politics. In 1998, Riley was appointed New York correspondent for the Herald and for Melbourne's The Age.

Riley won a Walkley Award in 1999 for his part in the SMH's coverage of East Timor's indepenence. Riley provided many reports for both newspapers on the September 11 terrorist attacks. Returning to Australia in 2002, Riley became the SMH's Chief Political Correspondent. In this position he provided commentary from Parliament House. Riley moved to Channel Seven in early 2004, where he has performed similar work to that with the SMH. He regularly provides live commentary on Sunrise and various Seven News bulletins.
