From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mark Parnell is an Australian politician and the Greens' first representative in the South Australian Legislative Council, having won his seat in the 2006 South Australian Legislative Elections. His term expires in March 2014.
Parnell was a founding member of the South Australian Greens and prior to being elected, he was a solicitor with the Environmental Defender's Office for ten years. He has also worked as a campaigner with The Wilderness Society and the Australian Conservation Foundation and was a solicitor in private practice in rural Victoria for 4 years.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (University of Melbourne), Bachelor of Commerce (University of Melbourne), and a Master of Regional and Urban Planning (University of South Australia), and he has been admitted as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Victoria and South Australia.
Parnell maintains a comprehensive web site devoted to his Parliamentary and community work including all his speeches, bills, motions, questions, campaigns, photos and podcasts. He is the only member of parliament who regularly rides his bicycle to work. In his (rare) spare time, he plays the button accordion and has been known to perform with the Adelaide Morris Men.
