[edit] Early life
Mark Landers was born in Killeagh in East County Cork in 1972. He was educated locally and later attended St. Colman's College, a famous hurling nursery in Cork. It was here that Landers first tasted hurling success, winning the Harty Cup with the senior team.
[edit] Playing career
[edit] Club
Landers played his club hurling with his local Killeagh team. He enjoyed some underage success and won a Cork Junior Hurling Championship title in 1995.
[edit] Inter-county
Landers was quickly noticed by the inter-county selectors and he became a member of the Cork minor team that lost the 1990 All-Ireland Final to Kilkenny. He had been a member of the Cork senior panel in 1992, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury a month before the opening of the championship. The 1990s were lean years for Cork hurlers with no Munster Championship success. This changed in 1998 when Cork won the National Hurling League, with Landers playing a key-role at midfield. In 1999 Landers captained Cork to win the Munster Championship for the first time since 1992, before going on to defeat Kilkenny to take the All-Ireland title. The next few years proved difficult for Landers. He couldn't cpmmand a regular place on the team and decided to retire from inter-county hurling in 2002.
