Mark Egan is considered to be one of the most respected and in-demand electric bassists on the music scene today. His unique fretless bass sound and style is both distinctive and versatile and his musical contributions incomparable. With three platinum & three gold albums to his credit, Mark has recorded with the likes of the Pat Metheny Group, Sting, Arcadia, Roger Daltry and Joan Osborne; performed with the Gil Evans Orchestra, Marianne Faithful, David Sanborn, John McLaughlin and Sophie B. Hawkins, and has added his musical prowess to such movies and television shows as; Aladdin, The Color of Money, A Chorus Line, NBC Sports, ABC’s All My Children, "CNN/Headline News" and numerous award-winning television commercials.

Mark Egan was born on January 14, 1951 in Brockton, Massachusetts. Influenced by his father, he first studied trumpet at age 10. He played the trumpet throughout high school, and switched to bass when he was 16. While attending the University of Miami School of Music, he had the opportunity to study with the inspiring jazz educator Jerry Coker. While in Miami he also became friends with Jaco Pastorius, and was able to study with the great electric bass master.

His most recent release as a leader is a super trio recording As We Speak featuring legendary guitarist John Abercrombie and master drummer and former Pat Metheny Group mate Danny Gottlieb. His other recordings as a leader are: "Freedom Town", "Beyond Words", and "Mosiac". With Elements, the group that he co-leads with Danny Gottlieb, he has released 10 recordings. He has also created music videos, "Om Yoga & Meditation", "Music on the Edge", and "Bass Workshop", a bass instructional video. He has appeared on the soundtracks of many movies: Two Moon Junction (1994), Object of My Affection(1998), You've Got Mail (1994), The Color of Money (1987). He has recently recorded an album with trumpet master Forrest Buchtel, Jr., (arranged by saxophonist Gary Anderson), and featuring, among other things, the theme from "CNN Headline News." The release is called "Urge."
