Marjorie Thompson

Marjorie Thompson (born 1957) is a British-based peace activist and expert in Cause-Related Marketing (CRM).
Thompson was vice-chair of the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) from 1987-93, and then Chair from 1990-1993, where she played a prominent role in the opposition to the 1991 Gulf War which followed Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
She is a former partner of the then Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament (MP) Dafydd Elis Thomas, who is currently Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Thompson was brought up in Long Beach, before studying history at Colorado College from 1974-1978, graduating with a BSc Hons. She came to England to study West European Politics at the London School of Economics (LSE), where she was awarded an MSc Econ.
In 1983, she was appointed as the first full-time parliamentary officer of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), where her introduction of American lobbying techniques helped to boost the campaign's profile in parliament.
After leaving CND in 1987 to work briefly in the House of Commons as an assistant to Ann Clwyd, MP, she was Parliamentary Officer at the Royal College of Nursing from 1988-93. She then worked as Head of Communications at the Commission for Racial Equality until 1997, whe she went on to pioneer cause-related marketing at Saatchi and Saatchi's "Cause Connection" unit.
Thompson is now a freelance communications consultant.
