Maris Otter

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maris Otter is a variety of Barley commonly used in the production of malt for the Brewing industry. The variety was bred by Dr G.D.H.Bell and his team of plant breeders at Cambridge.

Typically this variety of Barley is used to create a Pale ale malt which has become the basis of most cask conditioned ales, and is extremely popular both in homebrewing circles and among professional breweries, many of whom note their exclusive use of Maris Otter in their promotional literature. It is more expensive than other varieties.
