Mario Torres (born April 7, 1982 in Chihuahua, Mexico) is a Mexican soccer player, who currently plays for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.
At the age of 12 Torres was invited to the youth academy of Club America. He was unable to attend because of his family's wishes to immigrate to the United States. His family moved to Dallas, Texas and Mario was a star on the Howard Turner High School soccer team, playing on the varsity team his freshman year. The next year he transferred to Coppell High School and was sent to the junior varsity team. Frustrated with school and playing time he dropped out and earned his GED.
At this time he first joined Universidad de Guanajuato in the local Pan-American Soccer Association. In his three years there he helped them earn two championships. His performance was noticed by Atlas of the Mexican Primera División, and they gave him an offer to train with them, however an injury prevented Torres from ever following through.
In 2005, through a friend, he gained a tryout with FC Dallas. He lasted through three rounds of cuts, signed a developmental contract, and earned a spot on the reserve team. Though he has been moderately successful with the reserve squad, he has yet to see any playing time with the first team.
