Marine Girls
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Marine Girls were a music group from Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The group comprised sisters Jane Fox (vocals and bass) and Alice Fox (vocals and percussion) with school friend Tracey Thorn on vocals and guitar. On their earliest recordings, there was a fourth Marine Girl, Gina. The group formed in 1980, recorded a single and an album Beach Party in 1981, and contributed to the Cherry Red compilation record Pillows and Prayers.
In 1981, Tracey Thorn moved to Hull to attend university, but the group still performed together occasionally, and released a second album Lazy Ways in 1982.
From 1982 Thorn concentrated on her studies and her growing personal and professional relationship with fellow Hull student Ben Watt. As Everything But The Girl, their first single included a re-recording the Marine Girls song On My Mind.
The Marine Girls disbanded in 1983. Thorn concentrated on EBTG, and achieved success. The Fox sisters recorded as Grab Grab the Haddock.
