Mariestads
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mariestads is a Swedish lager beer brewed by Spendrups until of 1967, when Spendrups bought the local Mariestad brewery. The beer originates from the city of Mariestad, located on the east coast of lake Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden. The beer has a smooth and rich taste and is a popular common beer in Sweden.
Trivia: the beer was drunk by the band R.E.M. on their tour to Sweden in 2005. The singer Michael Stipe said to the guitarist Peter Buck, so the crowd could hear it; What is this we're drinking tonight? It's really tasty. And Peter answered: Ehrm... I don't know how to say this... Mariestad?, followed by a great cheer from the audience.[citation needed]
