Marie Slaughter

Marie Slaughter was a minor character on the seventies television sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She was played, on a recurring basis, by actress Joyce Bulifant.

[edit] Mrs. Slaughter

Marie was the wife of newswriter, Murray Slaughter, and usually was a homemaker. She usually felt threatened by Mary Richards as she was spoken of highly by Murray. However, it was Mary herself who spoke to Marie and explained that while Murray liked her, he was married to her (Marie) and Mary would never break that up. In that event, she and Mary were close.

She and Murray had four daughters, and adopted a Vietnamese son. One of Marie's worries was that Murray worked for such little money, and he worked two jobs to support the family. One of those jobs allowed Murray to get Marie a car that she loved.

Marie was a sweet woman, and yet she knew what she wanted.
