Marian Nelson McLawhorn is a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's ninth House district, including constituents in Pitt county. A resident of Grifton, North Carolina, McLawhorn is currently (as of 2006) serving in her fourth term in the state House, where she holds the position of Democratic Whip. Prior to her service as a State Representative McLawhorn served as Mayor for the town of Grifton. She is a former librarian. Her key issue is education. She recently was re-elected to serve her 5th term after defeating Republican candidate Tony Moore in the November 2006 election.
