Maria Petrova (Russian: Мария Петрова)(born November 29, 1977 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia) is a world champion figure skater. She hails from Yubileiny Sport Club.

Petrova began skating at a young age. She was a sickly child and her doctor recommended she get some exercise. Her parents got her into figure skating.
Her prior partners were Anton Sikharulidze and Teimuraz Pulin. She currently skates with Alexei Tikhonov, with whom she won the World Championship in 2000. They placed 6th at the 2002 Winter Olympics and 5th at the 2006 Games. They won a silver medal at the 2005 Worlds, and a bronze in 2006.
Petrova and Tikhonov announced they would retire after the 2006 Worlds, though at the request of the Russian Skating Federation they later agreed to stay on for another year. It is unclear who will "take up the mantle" of Russian pairs figure skating--Russians have been dominant in the sport for many years.
They are coached by Ludmila Velikova. Their choreographers include Alexander Stiopin and Sergei Petukhov.
Petrova and Tikhonov name Olympic champions Gordeeva/Grinkov and Mishkutenok/Dmitriev as their idols in skating.
