From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcus Livius Drusus Claudianus (died 42 BC) was the father of Roman Empress Livia Drusilla.

[edit] Life

Marcus was born as Appius Claudius Pulcher (by bloodline, he descended from the original Appius Claudius Pulcher, son of the Roman dictator Appius Claudius Caecus), but changed his name in honor of his father’s friend the tribune Marcus Livius Drusus who adopted and raised him when he lost his parents in infancy Drusus' father was also a tribune.

Marcus was praetor in 50 BC. He committed suicide along with Cassius and Brutus (the assassins of Julius Caesar) during the Battle of Philippi.

[edit] Marriage and issue

He married Aufidia, daughter of Aufidius Lurco, a Roman magistrate. Their daughter Livia was born in 58 BC and around 42 BC he married her to Tiberius Nero, a relative of his. Together they were the parents of the Roman Emperor Tiberius and Roman General Nero Claudius Drusus.
