- 1876 – The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad reaches Pueblo, Colorado.
- 1892 – Japan's Mito Railway is consolidated into the Japanese National Railways.
- 1893 – The New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad (the New Haven Railroad) leases the Old Colony Railroad.

- 1920 – Control of American railroads is returned to private ownership and administration with the disbandment of the USRA.
- 1989 – The Abbeville-Grimes Railway (a predecessor of the Bay Line Railroad) begins operations between its namesake cities in Alabama.
