Marcello Spatafora

Marcello Spatafora (born July 30, 1941) is an Italian diplomatic, the current Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations.

Marcello Spatafora was born at Innsbruck, Austria.
He served as the Italian Ambassador to Malaysia from 1980 to 1986, as the Ambassador to Malta from 1986 to 1989, as the Ambassador to Australia from 1993 to 1997, and as the Ambassador to Albania from 1997 to 1999. In 1989 and 1990 he served as the Chief of the Italian delegation responsible for organizing the country’s presidency of the European Economic Community.
From 2000 until his appointment as Permanent Representative, he worked at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Director General for the Multilateral Economic and Financial Cooperation.
He presented his credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General on April 4, 2003.
