Marcel Hossa (born October 12, 1981 in Ilava, Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player for the New York Rangers (he originally played his first three seasons for the Montreal Canadiens) franchise of the National Hockey League. He wears sweater number 81, playing either left or right wing. He was selected in the first round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, 16th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens. He was traded to the New york Rangers in exchange for forward Garth Murray. He is now a fan favorite of Rangers fans due to the shootout move he performed on New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, once on a shootout and another on a breakaway, and St. Louis Blues goalie Curtis Sanford.
He shoots left-handed. His size (6 feet 3.5 inches, 220 pounds) is an asset for playing in the corners. He is more suited to the offensive zone, since his defensive skills are sometimes questioned. His older brother, Marian Hossa, is a superstar who currently plays for the Atlanta Thrashers. Marian made the 2007 NHL Eastern All-Star.
When Hossa scores a goal at Madison Square Garden Fiesta Mexicana by Rex Gildo is played because the beginning of the song contains "Hossa! Hossa! Hossa!"
