MARS is the title of Japanese rocker/singer Gackt's first album. It was released in 2000. The album featured three singles; "Mirror", "OASIS" and the instant classic "Vanilla", popularized heavily in North America by a clip of live footage circulated on various P2P networks containing Gackt mounting his guitarist on stage. Each of the three singles are presented in different mixes than those found on the singles themselves.
[edit] Track listing
- "Ares" – 1:34
- "Asrun Dream" – 4:27
- "絵夢〜for my dear〜" [Emu–for my dear–] 6:02
- "U+K" – 4:18
- "Vanilla (MARS Ver.)" – 4:07
- "freesia〜op.1〜" – 2:38
- "freesia〜op.2〜" – 1:56
- "Illness Illusion" – 3:11
- "Mirror (MARS Ver.)" – 5:23
- "dears" – 4:18
- "OASIS (MARS Ver.)" – 4:36

Several pirate company (eg. EverAnime) pressings of MARS contain numerous bonus tracks from the singles released around the time, including Mizérable, Mirror, OASIS and 鶺鴒〜seki-ray〜; each pressing has around five to six different tracks.
[edit] Notes
- Though there are printed lyrics in the liner notes, "Ares" is sung completely in a made-up dialect some have called "Gacktese". "freesia〜op.2〜", an instrumental piece, also features printed words.
- The title "Emu–for my dear–" does not refer to the bird of the same name, but rather to a Japanese portmanteau which literally means "dream picture" or "dream painting".
- The translation to the title of the twelfth song, この誰もいない部屋で [Kono daremo inai heya de] is roughly "In this room with nobody in it"
- dears is also the name of Gackt's official fanclub (Gackt also calls the members "dears" as well.) The song was re-recorded for his album Love Letter.
- Live recordings of most of these songs can be found on PLATINUM BOX 〜Ⅰ〜 CD.
