[edit] Beginnings
A native New Englander originally from Springfield, Massachusetts, Mappychris has traveled and lived in many parts of the United States. In his early childhood, his time was divided between Springfield and Hartford, Connecticut. Due to both of his parents' military service, he went on to reside in several areas. He lived in the American South from 1991 to 1993 in the cities of Beaufort, South Carolina, Burton, South Carolina, and Norfolk, Virginia.
He moved to California in 1994, residing in the San Diego metropolitan area. He initially lived in the Paradise Hills neighborhood to the immediate east of National City. His experience in the diverse military district influenced his decision to study geography. He later moved to Rancho San Diego, a community outside of El Cajon in 1995.
[edit] Music
He began performing at age 7 while living in Rancho San Diego. His parents and a friend of his father's formed a group that began to play at local coffeehouses in San Diego. Mappychris was the group's backing vocalist. The group disbanded seamlessly in 1998. Mappychris continues to sing and compose music with his mother as a team. Under his mother's tutelage, he has been exposed to music forms from throughout the world. His exposure has aided in his cultural studies in and out of music. He is still exploring his own abilties and skills as he matures.
[edit] College Life
He resided in the San Diego area until 2000. Later, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he was able to cultivate his geographical and anthropological interests. After three years in Berkeley, Mappychris moved to San Francisco, California. Spending time in multiple locations in the United States has given Mappychris a unique experience, especially in regard to his cultural research. He now spends his time between Oakland, California and San Pablo, California where he attends Contra Costa College. He holds two associate's degrees in geography and liberal studies from that institution and is currently finishing work for his transfer. He will officially graduate from Contra Costa College in May 2007. Most of Mappychris' undergraduate research has been varied in focus. His past projects include a study into the geographic distribution of hate crime in the United States and an analysis into the Clean Air Act. He also studies different cultural spheres and international events. Current international upheaval and diplomacy are two things that he enjoys analyzing from the geographic and cultural standpoint.
