- Light yellow states: large Latino populations of any kind
- red: Tejano
- dark blue area: California mission (approximate area of greatest cultural influence)
- light green: Cuban music area
- dark purple-blue: Puerto Rico
- Small circles represent a musically significant population of a specific nationality of Latino
- orchid (blueish purple): Puerto Rican
- light green: Cuban
- dark green: Central American
- reddish-purple (cayenne): Hispanic American
- salmon: Dominican
- maroon: Colombian
- dark gray: Paraguayan
- carnation (pink): Brazilian
