my starting point is Microsoft .NET is "the international standard for the integration of enterprise and control systems the reason being it is inclusive and ultimately offers the potential for every computer to talk to every other computer.

There are hundreds of MES vendors in the market place, specializing on different platforms, across numerous industries.
