[edit] Britannica error?

In the process of trying to evaluate this Wikipedia edit, I think I may have found a potential error in the Britannica article on Manchester, CT. It states that the area was settled in 1672 when it was purchased by Thomas Hooker. However, Thomas Hooker seems to have died in 1647. This alternative source (which is a subpage of a site cited in the Wikipedia article on Manchester, CT) seems to give a more reasonable account, suggesting that it was settled from the area that had previously been founded (perhaps purchased?) by Hooker. Minor note: The page also suggests a settlement date of "around 1673" which differs slightly from the 1672 date that appears elsewhere (e.g. [1]). After a quick Internet search, I could not find any reference to a son named Thomas Hooker that the Britannica article might have been referring to (see, for example, here and here (which, incidently, reports a significantly different birth year for Hooker than other sources)). Can anyone confirm my suspicion that the Britannica account is in error? I may add this to Wikipedia:Errors in the Encyclopædia Britannica that have been corrected in Wikipedia or simply repost this message on the talk page there.--GregRM 02:47, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
