[edit] Delete?

I think this page should be deleted. Does Wikipedia really need an entry on some moron who causes trouble at anime conventions? It's not like he was some world-famous hero or something.

Please learn proper talk page format, and also please sign any comments you leave on talk pages. A request for an article's deletion might also be taken more seriously if you choose to actually register, and provide better reasons than "he's a moron". That aside, Man-Faye is a known entity with a fair degree of popularity and infamy amongst anime fans and on the internet in general, and his influence is more than a simple fad as his popularity can be traced back at least two years to when he was originally kicked out of Anime Expo in 2004 and his story spread. Elijya's right, the guy's positively infamous in U.S. anime fandom, regardless of his mental condition or taste. Respected subcultural news organizations such as Anime News Network have even interviewed him, and he appeared on that G4 show, too. Hate to say it, but there's no way around having an article on him; somebody would create one if there wasn't anyway. Additionally, the fact that the clip featuring him trying out for So You Want To Be A Superhero has appeared on Leno's show and elsewhere marks it as more notable than previously. Sorry, gotta vote keep here, too (even though it's not an actual vote). Runa27 18:54, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
I have proposed again this page to be deleted. How it wasn't deleted the first time surprises me, because he is just a crossplaying otaku. The "fame" he could have is on par with the fame the "Narutard" has, and you won't find any article about him on any wikipedia, because he doesn't deserve it. DrJones 10:53, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
We JUST had this discussion a month ago. You had your say then, and not enough people agreed with you. The only thing that's happened between then and now is that Man-Faye has had another notable television appearence (on Stan Lee's Superhero reality show). That, and the article has had a major re-write. Nothing has changed in the negative to give further reason for the article's deletion, the decision will be the same.Elijya 13:37, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Man-Faye has THE SAME impact the [Narutard] has (appearing on television to be mocked, appearing on conventions, being interviewed on many pages), which does not deserve to him appearing on the spanish wikipedia (not any other wikipedia). Man-Faye is a fad inside a certain community (cosplayers) with the same popularity the Giant Warthog is inside another certain community (magic players). Have you ever read about them? Of course not. I wouldn't have read about Man-Faye either if it didn't come as a Random Page. Seriously, this article shouldn't have been there on the first place. Man-Faye is less known than "Sailor Bubba", who (obviously) has NOT a wiki page about him!! These are enough reasons to warrant this article being deleted and being removed from existence. I even dare to go as far as to say that the only people against having this article removed are the ones that visit his livejournal! I'm nominating this again under these new charges. DrJones 18:44, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
And you've made your opinions known, as have other people, and there was no concensus. Deal with it. I'm certain there is a limit to how soon you can nominate an article for deletion again after a decison was already made. In fact, many of the issues brought up during the last nomination - the contents of the article itself - have been addressed. There is no further reason to debate this. Elijya 21:22, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
The issue is not with the contents of the article, but with the subject. It's not proper to have an article about "infamous people" on certain area of interest if there does not exist articles about "famous people" (people that have done something noteworthy and positive) on the same subject. To me, an article about Man-Faye is like writing an article about a failed theory about the creation of the pyramids, worth mentioning elsewhere, but not worth an article for itself. He hasn't even added anything to its area of interest, unlike most other infamous people on wikipedia (Rob Leifeld and Ron Jeremy).
Second, he hasn't done anything special nor unique. The Narutard applied for "Operation Triunfo" ("Who wants to be a pop star?") singing very badly a japanese song from Megumi Hayashibara without ever knowing the lyrics!! He explained to the judges that it was a very emotional song, because he could "feel the kharma that emanates from it" even though he had no notions of japanase!! He was mocked on the show, and he latter appeared on "El diario de Ana Rosa" (much like Man-Faye appeared on the show of Jay Leno). The Narutard has been interviewed on many places and it has a small circle of fans, much like Man-Faye. Both have fail at doing anything worth of being recorded for African Children to learn. DrJones, you wrote above "These are enough reasons to warrant this article being deleted and being removed from existence. I even dare to go as far as to say that the only people against having this article removed are the ones that visit his livejournal!" WRONG. I support keeping it (see above), and I am NOT a fan of his. In fact, I find him eyeroll-worthy, one of the worst of the fandom's attention whores (mind you, he obviously has a sense of humor, but still. Total attention whore). As a matter of fact, I was not even aware he had a LiveJournal. I thought somewhere I saw mention of a MySpace account, but even then, I wouldn't know where to look and wouldn't care to look, either. However, I have read up on him over at ANN and am a part of the anime/manga fan community (OUTSIDE of the Western U.S., thanks) so I did know enough to clean up the article. I don't appreciate the insinuation, DrJones, that simply because I care about the quality of articles on Wikipedia (regardless of how trivial or not the subject is), I'm automatically some zombified fan of freaking Man-Faye. I mean, yes, some of the previous editors obviously were, as the earlier article before I ever got here was very spammy; however, again, I've NPOV'd the HELL out of this puppy, and I don't appreciate it when people denigrate the work of an entire body of editors and imply fancruftiness just because they have a difference of opinion. That's simply NOT either Assuming Good Faith, or being NPOV, or, frankly, even mature. And it is most certainly not in the spirit of Wikipedia. We're here to edit articles on human knowledge, here, not sling mud at people who feel differently than we do about one. In short, please keep it civil next time, and cut back on the mud-slinging implications. Runa27 05:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about that, I shouldn't have generalized. DrJones 20:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, that's much more civil. :) Apology happily accepted. Runa27 07:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Major edits

I have done extensive reorganization and extensive rewrites (mostly for POV, but also for clarity and remove junk statements that seemed more like a joke than a serious statement, as well as adding more information). I also hopefully established how it's remotely notable :P (e.g. it made Leno, he's infamous in the fandom, etc.). How's it looking now? Oh, and I fixed the title for Who Wants To Be A Superhero?, after some Googling, not that that helped much, since there's still no page for the show. Runa27 21:48, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

  • I came by today to check on the AfD status, and I was very happy to see that someone had worked on rewriting the article itself. Good job! -Rikoshi 22:15, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks. :D I like NPOVing work. Sometimes it's the most satisfying kind of work imaginable - especially when one takes it from the spammy mess this article used to be, to what it is now. I look at this article, and despite my feelings on the guy himself, I feel happy. :) I notice someone also added a picture, which is always nice. Well, nice in and of itself. The picture is of course kind of... yuck. But it very much illustrates Man-Faye, that's for sure, so I can't really argue there. :P Runa27 05:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tech TV V G4

Edited out the G4 TV bits as G4 is not Tech TV. And I don't recall screwed ever being on the G4 line up
