[edit] History

The company was originally known as Scientific Time Sharing Corporation (STSC), formed in 1969 in Bethesda, Maryland with some of the people who originally implemented APL programming language as a language at IBM. In 1970, STSC released APL*PLUS, a new version of the APL language with many extensions oriented toward allowing to develop business applications.

  • 1979 - the company name was changed to STSC, Inc.
  • 1982 - APL*PLUS/PC launched, the first version of APL on the personal computer
  • 1982 - acquired by Continental Telecom Inc.
  • 1992 - name changed to Manugistics
  • 1993 - initial public offering
  • 1995 - the APL product line was sold to LEX2000, Inc.
  • 1999 - Cognos Corporation acquired LEX2000

Continued financial concerns for almost a decade starting in 1998, tough competition from vendors of similar software and a crash of the dot com boom heralded the steady deterioration of this famed Supply chain software company. After struggling for 9 years, it returned to positive numbers in 2006 and finally was sold off to rival retail-demand-chain software maker, JDA Software [1].

Manugistics is now headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, the headquarters of JDA.
