Manuel G. Tavarez

Manuel Gregorio Tavárez (Nov 28, 1843 – Jul 1, 1883), born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is considered by some to be the father of the danza.
At the age of 15 he moved to Paris to study in the Music Conservatory. Unfortunately he was not able to complete his studies due to an illness that caused partial paralysis of his left hand.
After returning to Puerto Rico he managed to recover enough to give concerts and teach piano. His most famous student was Juan Morel Campos
