Manning Bowl

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Manning Bowl was the nickname for the September 10, 2006 Sunday Night Football match-up between the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Giants of the National Football League. The game got its name from the starting quarterbacks for the teams, brothers Peyton and Eli Manning.

This was the first time two brothers started against each other at quarterback in the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks' Matt Hasselbeck and the Giants' Tim Hasselbeck have been on opposite sidelines of three games, but Tim has always been the backup quarterback (most recently to Eli Manning), and has not taken the field against his brother's team.

The Colts won the Manning Bowl, 26-21. The brothers had nearly identical statistics. Eli was 20 for 34 for 247 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception, while Peyton was 25 for 41 for 276 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Giants' ten penalties hindered the home team's efforts.
