Mandya

Mandya is a city in ಮಂಡ್ಯ Mandya District in Karnataka state of India. Mandya is 40 km from Mysore and 100 km from Bangalore.
The name comes from a sage Maandavya. Hence it is also called Maandavya Nagara There is a sect in Ayyangar Brahmins called Mandyam Ayyangars who are said to be hailed from Mandya.
The district is home to the famous Brindavan Gardens, at the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir, The Shivana Samudram waterfalls with their hydroelectricity generation plant (first hydroelectric plant in Asia), Srirangapatna (capital city of Tipu Sultan), and the Melukote temple. The Cauvery River is the main water source of Mandya, through the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir. Rice and sugarcane are the main crops.
Mandya city is also place Peoples Education Society College of Engineering popularly known as PESCE one of the top engineering college in the region. It also houses lush green cricket stadium of international standards. Karnataka government also started a medical college recently in Mandya. It was one of the first by Karnataka government in decades.
Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary along River Cauvery is in Mandya District.
