Mandukhai Khatun

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mandukhai Khatun is also known as Manduhai the Wise Queen of the Mongols.

After the death of Madukhai's husband, Manduul Khan, in 1467 she adopted the five year old orphan Batmonkh Dayan khaan. He was the last living descendent of Kublai Khan and she had him proclaimed Khan. Mandukhai then took command over the Mongols and warred with the Oirats, whom she managed to defeat.

When Dayan turned nineteen, she married him and retained her control over the Mongols. Again she took command over the army and defeated the Oirats, thereby retaking control over the eastern Mongols.

Her managing to keep the decsendants of Kublai Khan in power and the defeat of the Oirats have contributed to the forming of legends about her life.
