Mandoulides Schools is a co-educational, independent, K-12 institution known throughout the country for its unique success in International and National competitions. The four schools are situated on 2 separate campuses outside Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece and the main port of the Balkans.

Mandoulides Schools constitute a modern, dynamic community for education, culture and sports. They offer a private, co-educational day schooling for K12 Greek students. They run programs at the following levels: pre-school training, primary and secondary education, as well as preparation for tertiary-level education at both Greek and American universities.

Mandoulides Schools offer many extra curricular activities that range from martial arts to international conventions. The basketball team of the school has won the gold medal in the World Championship games of Basketball in Jerusalem in 1999 [1]. Several players that have been players of high school team of Mandoulides, play or played at the national Greek team. The most notable, is shooting guard Nikos Zisis, who has been officially acknowledged as the best young player in Europe in 2006. Adidas has been the sponsor of the soccer and basketball teams.

Mandoulides School has placed high school graduates in top US colleges such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT, Caltech, Duke, Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, Brandeis, Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, Wellesley, Vassar, Grinnell and Smith and in top U.K. universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.[citation needed] The school's alumni base is substantial.

Since 2005, the school has been certified with ISO 9001. Moreover, the school has been a TOEFL .[2] and ECDL testing center. Two forensics tournaments have been held at the school's facilities.

The founder of the school, Evangelos Mantoulidis was an ancient Greek literature professor at the American College of Greece (Anatolia) while he in charge of a tutoring service in Thessaloniki. In 1977 he decided to quit Anatolia and begin his entrepreneurial career. The first year's enrollment was 180 students. In 1991 he added a Junior and Senior High School. (Gymnasium and Lyceum)

His wife, Ekaterini Patakou, was instrumental in the success and growth of the school. Ekaterini Patakou ranked 1st in the college qualifying exams of the English literature major. In the early school years, she was in charge of the foreign language programs. As the school grew she took a very active role in the overall administration.

[edit] Kindergarten and Primary

The school follows the Anglo-American educational philosophy of early childhood development. It focuses on a creative environment helping young learners develop academic readiness and fine motor skills. The curriculum includes introduction to computers in English through a unique designed pre-school program focusing on developing thinking skills and relating visual concepts. Academic books are written annually by Mandoulides faculty to enhance the curriculum. Educational visits, field trips, participation in various competitions, theatrical performances, newspaper publications, environmental projects and arts and crafts exhibitions seek to shape and cultivate personality and sociability.

The curriculum includes: English, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Literature, Culture, Environment. Music, Clubs.

The school follows the standard curriculum dictated by the Greek Ministry of Education, greatly enriched with additional hours in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Economics, Ancient & Modern Greek, Latin, German and French.

Ninety academic books (90) are written annually by Mandoulides faculty to supplement the curriculum.

English as a foreign language is obligatory and is taught at all grades by both Greek teachers and teachers whose native language is English, all holders of university degrees. A unique bilingual language curriculum is offered during normal class hours for English/Greek native speakers and for highly proficient second language speakers. Using U.S. and British school text-books, students follow coursework commensurate with children of the same age in U.S. and British schools. Either German or French is obligatory and is taught at all grades as a second foreign language.

Extra lessons - free of charge - in English, French and German are offered after school hours to prepare students for various language certifications.

Primary and High School premises have been selected as exam centers for the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES), as well as for the University of Michigan ECCE exams.

Extra lessons - free of charge - are offered to prepare 10th, 11th and 12th graders for the examinations of SAT I, SAT II and TOEFL, essential for their entrance to U.S. universities. Guidelines and advice on college choice and application process are offered by the schools' special counselors.

Students have the opportunity to participate in a great English program where they can practice the English language while making friends and having fun.

The summer basketball jamboree has become a long-established, highly popular sporting get-together which is able to accommodate not only our own students but also attracts enthusiastic players from throughout the city.

  • Revision Courses:

Students are helped with extra support tuition in Mathematics and both Ancient and Modern Greek.

  • Math Camp:

Students from all schools of the city join a challenging program of training bright students at Math.

  • Soccer Camp:

It is widely known that football is the most popular sport among young people. This summer the famous football coach Antonius Seuntjens from Holland will train young athletes, following a week's special program.
