[edit] Overview

Mandalam brings together top artists from India and the U.S. to create dynamic and stunning productions. The work includes both traditional styles and contemporary work that draws from ancient tradition. Many of these arts reach back thousands of years: the Indian martial art, Kalari Payat, is considered the fore-father of kung fu. Kutiyattam, the oldest living theater tradition, was proclaimed by UNESCO a "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity". Other fabulous arts include: Kathakali, stylized theater; Mohini Attam, classical dance; vocal music, rhythm ensembles, folk & trance dance.

Currently under the artistic direction of Radha Carman, Mandalam has been presenting Indian arts to audiences since 1996 (often using the name Kerala Dance Theatre).
