From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Manchester South West was one of several Parliamentary constituencies created in 1885 from the former Manchester constituency. It was abolished in 1918.
Jacob Bright was one of the MPs sitting for the Manchester constituency prior to its abolition. He was a brother of John Bright and an active supporter of women's suffrage. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 1894.
Former MP Arthur Colefax was the husband of interior designer Sibyl Colefax. Colefax was once described by Kenneth Clark as being: 'a heavy man with a very large face, who was thought by those who had never visited the provinces to be the biggest bore in England'.
