Manann

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manann is a fictional diety in the Warhammer Fantasy game setting, the Old World god of the sea.

Manann is worshipped by sailors, fishermen, and coastal folk who rely on the sea. He is also known as Mathlann to the elves; a proscribed cult knows him as Stromfels, god of sea storms, predators, and reefs, though the priests of Manann regard them as separate beings. Manann is depicted as a bare-chested merman wearing a five-pointed crown, or as a whirlpool or waterspout, or as a sea monster. Symbols of Manann include a green five-pointed crown, the trident, and the albatross.

[edit] Relation to other gods

Manann is called the son of Taal, the god of nature, and therefore the nephew of Ulric, god of winter, considered Taal's brother.

[edit] Organised Worship and Orders

Manann is the patron god of the city of Marienburg, home of his largest Old World temple. The cult structure of Manann's worshippers is not hierarchical, and each temple is semi-independent. Other temples exist in Altdorf and Sartosa.

The great temple in Marienburg is home of the Order of the Albatross, an organization of priest-navigators.

Holy days of Manann include the Spring tide and neap tide, and the full nights of Mannslieb, the larger moon of the Warhammer world.
