The Management Development Institute (MDI) was established in 1973 and is a premier business school in India. It is located in Gurgaon, a place near the Indian capital of New Delhi. MDI Gurgaon has consistently been ranked among top five Business schools in the country. MDI is the first and only institute in India to be accredited by AMBA : Association of MBAs, UK.

Management Development Institute (MDI) was established in 1973 with the support from Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI). It has completed over 32 years of academic excellence as an institute of practicing managers. It has consistently been ranked among top ten Business schools in India. In the past decade, MDI has embarked upon new initiatives, forging partnerships with the industry, the corporate world and the international academic community. It has focused on improving the quality of its programmes, gaining international recognition, intellectual wealth creation and attracting quality resources, clients and constituents. MDI has its own campus spread over 37 acres in Gurgaon. Located strategically, the campus is about 16 km. from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. The campus is well laid out with an extensive six hole golf green, trees, lawns and aesthetically planned landscapes. The institute is set amidst abundant greenery in sylvan surroundings and provides a very conducive environment for studies. The entire complex consists of air-conditioned lecture halls, syndicate rooms, faculty and administrative blocks, a state-of-the-art computer center, and one of the best management libraries.
MDI is the first Indian B-School to receive global accreditation. UK based Association of MBAs (AMBA) has accredited MDI’s Post Graduate Programme in Management¸ Post Graduate programme in Human resource¸ National Management Programme and Executive Management Programme. AMBA accreditation will put MDI into the global league of B-Schools and help it to network with the best B-Schools in the world for research as well as faculty and student exchange.

[edit] Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM)
The Post-Graduate Programme in Management at MDI was started in 1994 with an objective to prepare global leaders who create, manage and lead effective change across diverse organizations. PGPM is the flagship programme of MDI and is the first and only programme in India to be accredited by AMBA (Association of MBAs) UK. This programme is considered to be amongst the best programmes in leading B schools of the country. PGPM has an excellent student exchange programme with approximately 1 out of every 3 student spending one term in B schools across the world. PGPM allows the students to take optional courses and specialize in a maximum of two functional areas viz. Finance, Information Management, Marketing, Strategy and Operations Management. The PGPM has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation of AICTE and awarded "A" Grade.
[edit] National Management Programme (NMP)
The National Management Programme (NMP) was launched in 1988 with the support of the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India. The NMP is designed for young managers in government and industry across all sectors of the economy. It focuses on enterprise management with the objective of creating, a nucleus of like-minded individuals in the top echelons of the Government, Public and Private Sectors. By bringing together the best among officers and executives in the country, the Programme provides its participants with an opportunity for closer interaction and greater understanding of the three sectors as well as personal and professional growth. This programme has the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India and is equivalent to an Executive MBA. For admission, the applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and Minimum 5 years of post qualification executive work experience.
[edit] Post Graduate Programme - Human Resource Management
Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource Management was launched in collaboration with the National HRD Network in July 2004 at MDI. This course was designed with an objective to prepare HR managers with capabilities in the domains of knowledge, attitude and competencies. The programme focuses on equipping the managers with global sensitivity, holistic business perspective, capability to manage uncertainty and complexity and with capability to manage diversity.
[edit] Post Graduate Programme in International Management (PGPIM)
Post Graduate Programme in International Management (PGP-IM) was launched in June 2006 by MDI in collaboration with the European School of Management (ESCP-EAP), France. The programme aims to develop future leaders with a global mindset who can build networks across geographies, who can appreciate cross cultural differences and live and work across cultures. The unique dual degree programme is delivered partly in India (MDI) and partly in Europe (ESCP-EAP campuses). After the stint at MDI, graduates have the option to spend about 10 months in Paris or London where they get exposed to class room teaching as well as least 4-6 months working through the internship route.

The Executive Management Programme at MDI is recognized as one of the most accepted programme for executive MBA. The objective of the course is to develop general management competencies and decision making abilities, enhance entrepreneurial capabilities and business leadership and develop a global perspective. EMP is a three year course which requires a minimum of three years of post qualification executive work experience.
[edit] Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management
The twenty-one month Diploma programme in Public Policy and Management is designed to equip the experienced Government servants with the relevant management concepts, skills and techniques in policy formulation, policy interpretation/analysis and policy implementation, that is, in the design and execution of delivery systems. The purpose is to enhance the sensibilities and capabilities of the participants to deliver better public service as well as to make them understand the global trends and practices in public policy to allow exploration of innovative options and choices. The first year of the Diploma programme is full-time residential and includes a six-week term at the George Mason University, Washington DC. During the second year, the participants would return to their respective work locations but would continue to work on a dissertation on a relevant topic of their interest. The Post Graduate Diploma will be granted only when the dissertation is approved by the thesis evaluation committee. This programme is sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. In order to ensure cutting edge relevance of the courses, the programme is being guided by a core team consisting of field experts from the Ministries, Government of India as well as the renowned personalities from diverse academic disciplines
[edit] Fellow Programme in Management
MDI has two doctoral-level programmes: the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM). FPM is a full time residential doctoral program which has the objective of providing education to develop outstanding scholars for careers in teaching and research at leading business schools and universities. To accomplish this, the Programme provides students with academic knowledge and research skills that make them specialized researchers with sufficient depth of knowledge in the various domain knowledge of management. The FPM is a residential programme and would take approximately three to four years to complete. During this period the student would undergo designated course work which has four components viz. PGPM level courses; FPM core courses; FPM electives and CIS; and Case Writing and would submit a thesis at the end of the programme which should provide an original contribution to an area of management or to one of its source disciplines.
[edit] Executive Fellow Programme in Management
The objective of the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) is to provide high quality management education to bright young men and women aspiring to build performing organizations. This doctoral programme has been designed to cater for the scholarly needs of working business executives and is largely a non-residential programme. The programme offers opportunities for enhancing executives’ research and consulting skills, professional competence and leadership skills through its carefully designed curriculum. Its course structure is similar to that of FPM with special emphasis given on knowledge domain areas like Business Policy and Strategy Management, Finance, Human Resource and Organizational Development, Human Resource Management, Information Management, Marketing and Operations Management.

MDI Gurgaon has launched a 15 month Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (EPGDBM): Energy Management with specialization in Power Distribution for working executives in power utilities, in collaboration with Ministry of Power, Government of India and USAID, under DRUM project. The purpose of the program is to select, train, and develop the best available talent in the power distribution units so as to meet the challenge of developing and managing world class distribution systems. The programme will have 12 months of classroom training in MDI complex and another 3 months for project works, which each individual will develop at his / her own workplace. Minimum of 15 years of post qualification executive work experience in power sector is required for this course.

MDI offers various specialized programmes for practicing managers and management faculty. These include short duration residential Management Development Programmes (MDP), In-Company Sponsored Programmes, Advanced Management Programmes (AMP), Quality Improvement Programmes (QIP), which is designed to fill knowledge and skill gaps in different functional areas.

Illumina Illumina is the annual Market Research fest of MDI for the corporate world and a popular Diwali fair for the visitors. Various Indian and MNC corporates, assign to the students of MDI marketing problems that they need to solve in areas such as concept testing, price-quality perceptions, attribute ranking, product testing, branding, image mapping, advertising effectiveness and consumer behavior research. The students, make games around the problems, and as public participate and have fun, the students assimilate buying behavior pattern of consumers.
Imperium Imperium is the official Annual Inter B-School fest of MDI, where learning and fierce competition are interspersed with creativity, fun and camaraderie. It is the confluence of the best student talent in the country, spread over three action packed days of learning and entertainment and a reflection of what can be achieved together.
Delphique Delphique is MDI's National Management Convention in which some of the best minds from the industry converge to discuss issues of current interest across business functions with the students of MDI. Delphique's uniqueness lies in its strong research focus, which is the responsibility of the student panels. These researches are guided by the faculty and they involve interaction with industry practitioners and live field researches.
[edit] UNNATI: A Mutual Fund Managed by Students
Unnati is MDI's in-house mutual fund which provides future managers with a launch pad to enhance their education and career opportunities through the experience of managing a real investment portfolio. The total investment value is more than Rs. 4 lakhs. There are two separate funds in the form of "Unnati Diversified Fund” - India’s first Student managed 'live' fund.” And “Unnati Mid Cap Fund” floated in 2004.
The team of Unnati is constantly striving towards its vision of integrating academic learning with real world market insights, and infusing some of the knowledge gained in the process back into the industry. Unnati is a proud and unique achievement of MDI.

Apart from clubs, festivals and investments, MDI students have initiated and sustained few other initiatives too.
Samaritans Samaritans is an NGO started by a group of students of MDI and is focused towards supporting society and the community in and around Gurgaon through initiatives, volunteering and action plans.
Prayas Prayas, the student run cooperative store makes available essential things to students in the MDI hostel. The store is run totally by students & the profit is used for expansion & for social causes. Prayas is one of its kind of completely student managed initiative across the campuses of B schools in India.
