IMDb profile

Man Of Aran is a documentary film on life on the Aran Islands by Robert J. Flaherty (1934). It features characters who live in an almost primitive society and their life hardships. It documents the daily routines, such as fishing and farming potatoes. In this film, some situations are fabricated, such as one particular scene where the fishermen are almost lost at sea. Also, the family are not actually related, they were chosen for how photogenic they were together. "Man of Aran" is in the form of a travel essay, it shows us culture on the outskirts of modern society, even for the 1930's.Eamonn DeValera held the film in high esteem due to its idyllic depiction of rural Ireland.
