Man-Ching Donald Yu

Man-Ching Donald Yu (Traditional Chinese: 余文正) (born 1980) is a Hong Kong composer.

Donald Yu is one of the most active Hong Kong composers in his generation. By the age of 25, he has composed over hundred works in various genres including piano works, organ works, chamber music, vocal music, choral music, opera, film music, orchestral works, concerti and electronic music. His music is published primarily by Gold Branch Music, Inc. and Wehr's Music House. His piano and chamber music is released by Zimbel Records. Yu's music has been commissioned and performed by various prominent performers and organizatons, including Ithaca College Trombone Troupe, the Hong Kong Baptist University Girls' Choir, organist Carson Cooman and the Harvard University Choir etc. As a prolific composer, his vast amounts of compositions have been performed at numerous occasions and venues in the United States, Mexico, Europe and Asia. As a soloist, he has premiered numerous piano and chamber music actively in different occasions. Since 2006, he is named the artistic director of the Hong Kong Cosmopolitan Youth Orchestra and the Hong Kong Integrated Arts Association(HKIAA).Yu started his training as a concert pianist at the age of 10. He made his debut as a soloist with Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra under the baton of his mentor Dr. Yip Wai Hong when he was 16. He earned his bachelor's degree from Baylor University where he studied piano performance with Krassimira Jordan. He also studied advanced composition and orchestral conducting. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in composition at Hong Kong Baptist University. Since 2005 he receives ASCAP Annual Awards in composition. [1]
