IMDb profile |
Mama Don't Cry (1997) (Russian: Мама не горюй, Mama Ne Goryuj) is the most famous of Russian cult gangster comedy-dramas, such as Zhmurki and No Way. It feels like a tasteful cross between Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. It shows qualities of both with amazingly inspiring Russian twist.
The movie came out in the tumultuous mid-nineties. It features a strong cast and is packed full of truly humorous jokes, which are almost impossible to translate. Even the official literal translation of the movie title, "Mama Don't Cry", is quite misleading: any natural verbal reaction to dropping an iron on your foot would be closer.
The stars of the film include famous Russian actors such as Gosha Kutsenko, Andrey Panin, Evgeny Sidikhin, Nikolay Chindyajkin, Valery Priemykhov, and Ivan Bortnik. Directed by Maksim Pezhemsky.
