Malibu Ballet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Malibu Ballet was created by Joanna Jarvis. It was created so that younger people could have a chance to dance in front of an audience and start to enjoy performing. In 2006 the studio that housed it (formerly known as Ballet by the Sea) was bought out by Dance 4 Kids. Although many changes were made, Malibu Ballet continues to perform The Nutcracker every year. Audiences are thrilled and pleased by the amazing work put into to put on this production.

There are two different sections in the company: concert dancers and civic dancers. The concert dancers get to be corps de ballet, while the civic dancers get to participate in the main roles of the ballet. All the younger dancers that are not in these sections audition for smaller roles.

Joanna Jarvis was a former professional dancer who has been teaching for over 25 years. She teaches R.A.D. syllabus and students in Intermediate Foundation and up take exams to move up a level. They must memorize everything in the syllabus including a dance and some pointe work.
