Malaysia Federal Route 4 is a federal highway in Malaysia and part of the Malaysian Federal Roads system.

[edit] History

The Federal Route 4 was built in the 1960's as a defence-related highway. In the early stages, there were military presence in every kilometre. The highway was built to cut-off the Communist Party of Malaya from the safe havens in Thailand. Many lives were lost during its construction, mainly due to Communist insurgency. Originally the highway opened only in daytime. With the surrender of the Communist Party in Thailand, the highway became an important route between the state of Kelantan and Penang besides providing with spectacular forests views and excellent drive along the Temenggor dam.
